"Wild Child" by Enya from A Day Without Rain

"What a day—what a day!" sings Enya in this ode to enjoying life as it comes. Don't care for if your actions make you "a wild child"; "let the rain go on and on".

"Wild Child" has a cheerfully nippy beat that ebbs and flows slightly to accent the chorus. She's made music for a long time, even including the breaks she's taken, and she knows what she's doing. Everything flows well, but there's also a reason her music is called Celtic New Age. (Note that she's mainly called New Age for her sound.) Her primary instruments are piano and a synthesizer in minor key tonality.

What is "minor key"? It's pretty much what makes certain songs make you feel relaxed or depressed just from the music. (Some people get relaxed; others get depressed.)

Enya tends to pair her minor key tonality with cheerful songs, like this one about enjoying life. Some folks who find minor key depressing appreciate the dichotomy, but she's generally more popular among those of us who find minor key relaxing.

Enya's voice suits the song, too. She has a bit of an echoing sound in "Wild Child", but her voice is one for lullabyes. That said, the nice clip of "Wild Child" counteracts it to keep the song relaxing instead of sleep-inducing. Perfect fit.

Overall, a fantastic choice if you like Celtic, New Age, or minor key tonality. Otherwise—or if minor key tends to depress you—avoid it.
