"Requiem for a Tower" from Requiem for a Tower (iTunes)

This version of "Requiem for a Dream" was specifically remixed for the trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (I think). Suffice to say, its source is hard to track down. The original song ("Lux Aeterna" by Clint Mansell) is so popular that a myriad of trailers and other things have used it, and numerous remixes have appeared.

The arrangers of this particular version—Simone Benyacar, Dan Nielsen, and Veigar Margeirsson—never intended "Requiem for a Tower" to be individually sold, but fan demand changed that last October (2006). iTunes now offers the song as part of Corner Stone Cues' release of the album Requiem for a Tower.

"Requiem for a Tower" evidently added the orchestra to "Lux Aeterna." It's a lot of the same underneath, but it shifts and moves with what it's meant to coincide with, a movie trailer. It wasn't designed to stand on its own. And that something that it's to be viewed with is obviously an epic fantasy just from the tone.

Darkly beautiful, "Requiem for a Tower" will set your pulse hammering. Not from the beat—it's not that fast—but from the suspense inherent in the music. Some epic war of good verses evil is at hand, the music makes me think. I'm not sure how else to describe it.

The vocals are very limited to the background, melded in with the rest of everything. They're barely audible, but they fit perfectly. (There are no lyrics.)

If you don't like "dark"-sounding music, avoid this song. But if you do… You're in for a treat!
