"Let The Flames Begin" by Paramore from Riot!

All right; I'm a bit late in reviewing Paramore, considering they recently lost two of their founding members. So their sound will be shifting some soon, though Paramore insist they'll keep their signature sound.

What, though, is that sound? Calling it "emo pop punk" gives the right idea. It resembles Avril Lavigne sans the bratty, while geared for youth like BarlowGirl and Superchic[k]. (In fact, when I first heard Paramore, I feared BarlowGirl was a Paramore rip-off, but BarlowGirl actually predates them. Whew!)

It isn't a "Oh drop everything and come listen now!" sound, but the song's extremely upbeat. I find it catchy and enjoyable. Well-blended, too. Nothing catches my ear as astounding, though. It's still pleasant.

And the lyrics keep it pleasant. The song's about keeping your ground and taking pride in your own dreams, even when others are tearing you down. "Let The Flames Begin"—because we're reaching for our dreams no matter what others think. (Are we artists actually the main ones with that problem, or are we just the most vocal about it? Hm…)

But the song does not have the "If you don't like it, buzz off!" approach that's common to emo and punk music. I like this attitude! Optimistic and healthy.

Paramore's vocalist, Haley Williams, has the standard type of voice for this kind of music, with young rough vocals like Avril Lavigne. But Haley also pours optimism and force behind her voice. Listening to "Let The Flames Begin" makes me want to smile.

Overall, great example of the emo/pop/punk genre of music.
