"The Analyst" by Delta Goodrem from Mistaken Identity

"She's traveling back in time, questioning every line," always analyzing everything she experiences each day before falling asleep that night, singer/songwriter Delta Goodrem says of the girl "The Analyst" is about. Not that the song is about anyone in particular, unless it's Delta Goodrem herself.

"The Analyst" captures the silent self-impost cage of someone with this type of personality. Everything has to fit into the analyst's neat little boxes for her to understand her world. Only once it fits can she let herself fall asleep each night.

That personality has its upsides and downsides, because the analyst doesn't easily forget anything, be it someone she meets or her own mistakes. But the analyst also tends to feel isolated, because others are not apt to understand her urge to observe rather than participate.

Delta Goodrem's slightly-breathy voice makes me compare it to a softer Kelly Clarkson, which even I think strange. Her voice suits the song, and it's attractive, but in my opinion, it in itself doesn't add to the song's emotions as much as it could've.

The music accents Delta's voice. It's primarily piano + drum set + electronic-soundign chime. The piano has a nice fact-paced repeat that has more steps to it than it first seems. The drums, when they appear, are the standard beat-holders, nothing special. The chimes meld into the piano part. So it's not fantastic, but it's still blended nicely enough to be enjoyable.

Overall, if you like pop rock, give it a shot. Otherwise, I doubt it'll catch your interest.
